Balzan Village - Town-sized, Balzan is known as one of the "three villages" of Malta, a region in the centre of the island, away from the coast and ideal for growing oranges and lemons in gardens - not many of those left here today, alas. A delightful, calm retreat at Balzan is the baroque public gardens, adjacent to San Anton Palace, built by Grand Master Antoine de Paule in the late 16th century. It's now the official residence of the President of Malta.
