This reproduction of an original oil painting, Rainy Night, is a view from the second-story apartment I once lived in. Artists often are interested in things they see regularly over a period of time - the sustained proximity makes you more aware visually. I enjoyed painting the night wet street reflections of car headlights and neon bar sign; urban scenes, with their artificial lighting and solitary figures, engage modern society (like Edward Hopper's paintings). The central tree form flattens the space - this is a device often used by Impressionist painters, such as Degas.
