Samuel Massey is an artist who does wonders with pastel, charcoal, oil and pencil. His portraits are done with an especially skilled and sensitive hand.

He was born in 1940 in a farmhouse in Wagram, North Carolina, and studied at Joe Hing Lowe Studio in New York City.

Of his work he says: "Painting, to me, is a way of placing my feelings on canvas so that what I may be able to express with words can be communicated in the form of color and objects to the people around me, and to others who view my work. When doing portraits, I very often turn out what may be called something unusual and perhaps unfinished."
