This reproduction is of a pastel called California Beach, which was done during a trip up the California coast - specifically, at Torrey Pines state beach near La Jolla. The Pacific ocean was a deep emerald, and reflected the sun so brightly. It was hard to capture this sparkly fluidity in a "dry" medium such as pastel. I always like to watch people at the beach - the children are transfixed by the ocean, and people loosen up into interesting postures.
