This is a reproduction of an original oil painting, called Big Cornfield. It got its name because it is a large painting, about 48" square, larger than I usually work. (I still have the original painting.) I do like cornfields - in this case, I like the way the rows curve around and the resulting perspective (which was a real bear to do). Here, the cornfield, a modest thing, is treated in a monumental fashion. I liked working with the various bits and pieces of color - yellows, greens and blues. I'm sure they have cornfields around the world, but somehow it feels like an American thing. This scene is looking toward Immaculata College, in Malvern, Pennsylvania.
